I've used http://www.freedomvoice.com, they were pretty good, but we didn't market the phone numbers correctly..

There is also a company called Ad Tracker who is supposed to be pretty good.

I used 800 numbers for people to call and listen to pre-recorded messages. This home.... We would also leave messages about how our services can help people. But we didn't get that many phone calls. Its like everything else you have to sow the seeds to reap the rewards, and I didn't sow enough seeds.

I just switched my phone service to VOIP. If you have broadband connection, it works pretty good, better than my old service. Anyway, it's $20 per month for unlimited local and long distance. It's a lot better than the $70 to $100 that I used to pay each month.
Oh yeah,
for an extra $4.95, you can have an 800 number.
Email me if you want the details. If I refer anyone, we both get 1 month free. andy1malcolm@gmail.com

Vonage.com is far and away the best VoIP provider according to the 2/05 issue of Consumer Reports magazine and friends that use it. They have a limited $15/mo plan or a more acceptable $25/mo plan. That does not include charges, fees, taxes, sales tax, thumb tacks, etc. Add about five bucks for that. I'm currently with TDS MetroCom for $25 (plus junk) which includes the bells and whistles, 60 minutes of LD, and a toll free number. For my purposes, I see no need to change.

Aldo if Andy's plan beats Vonage then there could be a reason. I guess we should total up both plans and see which one outweighs the other! Itemize each plan and let's see who prevails! :SM084:

Vonage was the first to offer VOIP. I checked them out also, but I decided on packet 8 instead. Of course, you are free to choose whichever one that you'd like. Here's the link to anyone that might be interested.

Aldo,
My consumer reports subscription ran out in Dec., and I forgot to renew it :SM003:
I am curious, though, how did packet 8 measure up?

Packet 8? No clue what that is, sorry. I've not looked any further into VoIP because it is of no value to me, personally. Due to my specific requirements, there would be no benefit in going with that. But, that's me. I can see huge benefits to those with different telephony needs.

For those of you that don't have broadband (like me), I have used CallWave and that was an ok service if you don't mind having "call waiting" put on your modem line. I didn't care for that and I was getting calls that were nothing more than sales calls so I did away with that service. But aside from that Call Wave is a pretty decent plan. Then I went with a separate long distance carrier called Cognigen which is a really cheap long distance plan and I know that they also have 800 numbers available. All those other bells and whistles, I'm not sure about, but if you looking for a reasonable, even on the cheap side, type of long distance/800 number carrier, I would strong suggest Cognigen. Only problem for me is that they don't have a bill paying access on the internet and you have to mail in your bill.
