There are houses that can be rehabbed in 10 days with minimal cost and effort but there are houses that really do need a complete renovation. It is important to know which is which.

There is a house that we were calling the disco house. The place was a real mess and needed an extensive renovation to make it not only livable, but sellable.

I happened to be in the neighborhood today and decided to stop by and see what every became of the Disco house. The investor that purchased and renovated the house should be ashamed of themselves. The house is still a mess and I can tell they did not do anything to correct the major problems. They threw in some new carpeting, a coat of paint, and called it a day. They even painted the vinyl siding. Anyone who buys that place is going to be very disappointed. Just, I mean, come on. If you are not going to do a good job then do not bother doing it at all.

I hope the losers sit on it and lose their tales. That is NO WAY to do business. It makes you mad doesn't it!

There is a house that we were calling the disco house. They're still around???? The place was a real mess and needed an extensive renovation to make it not only livable, but sellable.

The investor that purchased and renovated the house should be ashamed of themselves. The house is still a mess and I can tell they did not do anything to correct the major problems. They threw in some new carpeting, a coat of paint, and called it a day. They even painted the vinyl siding. Oh my Goddess!! Anyone who buys that place is going to be very disappointed. Just, I mean, come on. If you are not going to do a good job then do not bother doing it at all.

I wonder if the "investor" might be a novice/experienced?

Not in the least because mad isn't the right word. But, it does infuriate me to know there are @#$*'s out there ripping off buyers and, at the same time, giving a bad name to the MB family. Oh yeah, there are other worthy investors out there, too. Almost forgot about them. Maybe I'd remember them if they were Fambly members, eh?

I wonder if the "investor" might be a novice/experienced?
It's possible but that doesn't make them respectable. Here's the scenario I'm picturing. An investor (new and uninformed) or (veteran without scruples) finds a super deal and is satisfied with doing only enough cosmetics to make a property salable in the hope of attracting a first-time buyer who doesn't know what to look for and declined a home inspection. Either investor knows, for example, that a foundation crack can be a serious problem, yet chooses to ignore (or worse, conceal) it with the hope that it goes unnoticed. Sadly, this happens oftener than we'd like to believe.

That's typical for around here. What an investor will do is buy a house for $20-30k, slap some paint on it, carpet, etc., then rent it out Section 8 for $600 a month. They don't care. I never knew how easy it was to be a Slumlord (no offense Mike). But that was before the hurricane. The days of the $30k house are gone. At least til all the new housing that's being built becomes available.

We are talking about a house that will retail for $180-$200k. They did some stonework on the chimney and around the front door but then they just sprayed the vinyl siding and painted the trim (black). Inside the just put in paint and carpet.

The big thing I noticed is it does not look like they did anything to correct the water problems on the part of the roof that is flat.

Then again, the house looked so bad I doubt they will sell it any time soon. Serves the right.

At first I was going to be polite. After loooking at the pic again, I just gotta ask. Is that (whatever it is) in the center a revolving door? No offense intended, but it just looks weird to me. On the other hand, maybe it's normal and I'm weird.

You are looking at mirrored vertical blinds and some sort of funky mirrored light fiture. That was in the dining room

Brian, you have my curiousity in high gear. You have to take of post more pictures. It would be neat to have pictures of the people who decorated this "disco" house as such. Are you sure Herb Tarlek (of WKRP in Cincinatti)did not live there
