If you could go back in time 50 years, with $500,000 CASH, where would you buy real estate? If you vote other, please elaborate to where. Thanks! :)

Guess I would vote Anaheim, mainly because it is one of the few markets that I have ANY knowledge about, and just imagine what you could have bought for $50K back then and the FORTUNE it would be worth today! When I lived there, homes had gone up 16.9% in a single year!

Fifty years ago you could have bought just about ALL of Aspen after the mines closed.
Today the median home price is over a million dollars and building costs are running close to $400/sf WITHOUT land.
Any of the high mountain valleys in Colorado would have been good: Steamboat, Vail, Breckenridge, etc.
The available developable land is limited because of the topography.
There is even a proposal being floated in Vail where some developers are wanting to cover over Interstate 70 so they can build condo's on top of it.
All the Best,

Though I voted for San Francisco, anywhere in CA would be my choice, IF I knew then what I know now. Fifty years ago CA wasn't the hot market that it is now and FL would have been my choice.
