I have had a great deal of interest in renewable and energy efficient building materials and techniques for a few years now. In anticipation of building my own home, I began researching information online for all things alternative in building design, construction and materials. The following is my most recent discovery. The proposed use of an abundant agricultural residue from the rice growing industry as an alternative to the manufactured insulation products we are all familiar with. Rice hulls! How does this relate to a forum dedicated to REI? It probably doesn’t but perhap someone intending to build their home with their REI wealth would be interested, or perhaps someone involved in the construction industry might find it thought provoking. Either way, the information is very interesting.
