There was a good article in the Tennessean newspaper for those who are beginners or thinking about buying foreclosures.

They mentioned Ralph Roberts co-author of Foreclosue Investing for Dummies which you should be able to get online somewhere.

Great information.
I think newbie investors, should go in risking very little at first.
Wholesaling is excellent in developing the experience and skills needed, while earning a respectable income in the process.
Here you limit your risk to your earnest money - well really your option consideration which for me is about $10.
You're not taking title to a property, have to close, do repairs or anything like that. YOu are simply controlling a property using a contract or option and assigning it to another investor who takes the lion's share of the profits, but also the lion's share of the risk.
Foreclosures have lots of legal, financial and other hidden bumps in the road and it would be good for newbies to get a feel for things through low risk investments at first
