We had our first good rain of the summer so far, I was painting and finished up and went to get cleaned up for dinner, well... this is what I found.

Could someone give me an assessment of the problem, how much is it going to cost me, and finally is this something I could do if I were competent?

Thanks,
Scott

I feel your pain, my house gets atleast a solid 2 inches of rain everytime it rains...the dirt comes up higher then the slab so a lot of rain water drains into the basement. Still trying to figure out a solution besides excavating the entire yard

Jeff will be home shortly. I'll have him look at the pics and advise.

It would be more telling if you could post some photos of the exterior. We used to finish basements fulltime so I might could help. Post photos of the yard closest to the leak's origin. Also, please post some photos of your gutters, downspout, and front porch.

Ill take pics of the outside in closer detail, here is the side that is leaking.

I happen to talk to my Grandma LOL.... don't make fun

and she said that if the gutter isn't working right or is clogged all the water from the roof runs strait down, which makes sense....but then I ask, should water be coming in at all?

Thanks Guys.

so I post this pic and notice the gutter drain not connected, I was like what the heck is this huge PVC Pipe connected and running out by the fence.

hmm, This little secret would have been nice to be disclosed. so I will "rig" it back up for now....

But I would like to rectify the problem correctly, the leek takes place in the basement directly on the left side of the door, strait down where the gutter is against the side.

does it need sealed? do I need to have a contractor do this? can I get my sweet 7 dollar shovel and dig down there?

Thanks

For the time being, it is hard to see the pictures without upclose details.
I concur with Angela's recommendations.

Until detailed pictures are posted, I am unable to advise.

You need to get the water further away from the house. Make sure all the downspouts are in place and that the water is running correctly through the gutters to the various outlets and not overwhelming a single point in the gutter system, and yes it is a system. You way want to consider repositioning the downspout to get it to a point where you can add additional piping to push the water way out there.

Most downspouts end at ground level or just have a small outlet to try and push it away from the house. That may not be sufficient if the current grading is just moving the water back against the house. Long trench, plastic tubing, set so gravity can do the trick, then run the downspout through the tubing.

Additionally you can look into drain tiles to help direct water away from the
foundation.

There are a a numbe of options but the best solution will be difficult to determine from a picture.

I thought the problem was isolated, but I checked this morning to find the other side also had water coming through.

I will get close up shots from outside where the leeks take place when I get off work.
