View Full Version : Gelatinous Goo?

OK, pardon the extreme lack of technical terms in this post...

Inspecting a rental the other day I came across a puddle of light brown/orangish goop at the back corner of the house. I assumed that some stray animal had gotten sick there so I took the hose to it and didn't think much more about it.

A few days later the tenant tells me it's back again. (More than slightly debunking my puking animal theory.)

Anyway, turns out that the A/C drain had been inadvertantly buried and where this goo was is where the end of the pipe was.

I unburied and unclogged it, flushed the line with bleach and propped the pipe up with a brick.

Is there anything else that needs to be done and what on earth could the gelatinous globs of goop have been??

Probably just all the crud and junk that often collects in those lines; dead insects and their eggs, dust etc.

Most likely algae and other stagnant water growing ooze.

Remove the brick if it alters the pitch of the pipe, you need the water to drain freely. Also, you might want to follow up with the bleach treatment once a week for a few weeks. I doubt the end of the pipe is the only place were the ooze was growing.

Other than that, not much more needed other than to make sure the water flows freely when the a/c is running.
