View Full Version : Drywall cracks near my windows. How bad are they?

All,

Yesterday, I noticed drywall cracks near my windows. Attached is a picture of a large crack. Could this have been caused by settling of the foundation? There have already been hairline cracks in the shower grout as a result of foundation settling.

How big of an issue is this? How could it be easily and inexpensively fixed?

Thanks in advance for all your help.

Ryan

Don't worry, Ryan.

According to hubby (structural engineer), it's not a problem.

Spackle and paint touch up should do the job.

It is common for the house to settle a little from time to time.

That's your drywall bead pulling away from the Gypsum board/drywall. You might consider using a few drywall screws to pull it back down before re-floating the sills.

Thanks, Debbie and Dan.

I patched it with spakling and then repainted it.
