I have two medical bills (same incident) one is for $2200 the other for $700 from a few years back. I just realized they were there when I first applied for a mortgage about a year ago. These are the only negative thing on my credit report which drops my score from an A to a B/C rating. This is very irritating since I am extremely conscious of my credit. I have been back and forth with my OLD insurance company and they have explained that I went over my plan coverage for that year leaving me responsible for the balance (hard to believe since I NEVER go to the doctor...) Anyway here I am negotiating with the Debt Company, god are they annoying. So I make an offer to the doctor for 1500 and they reject it stating they will only accept the full balance. Ok, whatever I owe the debt and I am going to pay it, right? Now I am hearing people tell me "Don't pay it! It will stay on your credit for 7-10 yrs after you are done making payments on the account." But if I do pay it won't it improve my credit since it will show I am making payment on the account? And what's this I hear that Medicals bills don't affect your credit? Thats bull since everytime I have applied for some type of credit it jumps up to bite me. So whats my plan??? I just got off the phone with the collection agency, I called to tell them I plan to begin making payments on the plan they sent me, BUT before I do this I would like a letter in the mail stating they will report I am making payments on the account. The lady said "oh yeah, we do that every month" I explained that's nice but I really need something in writing. She then went on to explain "a custom letter costs $35 dollars" now I did try to remain calm until she repeated it three times. (what kind of moron can't write a 3 line letter!!!) I said to her, your objective is to have me pay the debt, right? So I am asking for a letter and you will get your $$$:SM003: Should I make payments? Should I never pay since it only stays on for 7-10yrs?Maybe someone can give me some advice...I would love to hear from SPIVALAW considering you are a lawyer and all. I can't keep wasting time on this I need to take care of it and get it over with!:SM030:

Late medical bills has always affect credit. I think you were thinking of the landlords ignoring the potential tenants' medical bills.

Ignore those who recommend you not to pay. You still have to pay the bills. If it turns out that your old insurance company is the one that owe the bills, sue them ONLY after you pay the debt off.

By delaying, it will stay on LONGER than 7-10 years. Get it over with and hopefully, your doctor's billing office will help you get it off the credit. Yes, they can and do that BUT only if you're kind to them.
